Gisela Carbajal Rodríguez is a Mexican artist and filmmaker. Her interdisciplinary practice is firmly rooted in a documentary approach. It combines documentary cinema, installation, 3D animation, machinima and game modding. Her works deal with real-world ecological destruction, human rights struggles and their highly mediated representations in video games.
At the heart of her practice lies an ecofeminist conviction that documentary narratives can shape our responses to the world around us and move us to action.
Therefore her works have been integrated in school curriculums, science conferences, degrowth forums and programs of grassroots organisations.
She studied audiovisual arts at Universidad la Concordia Aguascalientes México and documentary film directing at the University of Television and Film Munich. Her film “Oro Blanco” was nominated for the Student Oscar / Student Academy Award.
She was recipient of the Media Art Scholarship by Kirch foundation, which includes a 12-month artist residency at the Munich Media Art Atelier. Furthermore she received scholarships to realize documentary projects in Docuvillage Directors Program in Akko, Israel and Cape Town, South Africa.
Her works have been shown at Digital Art Center Taipei, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Rijeka, iMAL Art Center for Digital Cultures & Technology, the Guanajuato International Film Festival, DOK Leipzig, International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, and BOGOSHORTS, among others.
Gisela collaborates with Felix Klee, Johanna Huber, Brujazul, Sofía Gómez Cordova, Rina Zimmering, Total Refusal and Natalia Gómez.

Gisela Carbajal Rodríguez es una artista y cineasta mexicana. Su práctica interdisciplinaria está firmemente arraigada en un enfoque documental. Combina el cine documental, la instalación, la animación 3D, el machinima y la modificación de videojuegos.
